Documents Appear Black When Sharing Word Windows Using Microsoft Teams

  • What happens: When you share a Word window using Microsoft Teams, the people with whom you’re sharing see a black rectangle instead of your document.

  • What this means: Contract Tools uses an overlay to apply highlighting (see Highlighting Content) without changing your document. Some versions of Microsoft Teams can cause this overlay to appear as a black rectangle when sharing a Word window.

  • What you should do: Update Microsoft Teams to the latest version; visit Update Microsoft Teams to learn how. If Microsoft Teams cannot be updated, you can share your desktop instead of a Word window, or turn off Contract Tools while sharing a Word window; see The Contract Tools Ribbon Tab to learn how to turn off Contract Tools.
