Documents Appear Black When Sharing Word Windows Using Microsoft Teams

  • What happens: When you share a Word window using Microsoft Teams, the people with whom you’re sharing see a black rectangle instead of your document.

  • What this means: Contract Tools uses an overlay to apply highlighting and underlining without changing your document; see Highlighting and Underlining to learn more. Microsoft Teams can cause this overlay to appear as a black rectangle when sharing a Word window.

  • What you should do: Share your desktop instead of a Word window. For help using Microsoft Teams, visit Microsoft Teams help & learning. As an alternative to sharing your desktop, you can turn off Contract Tools while sharing a Word window; see The Contract Tools Ribbon Tab to learn how.
